Duke of Edinburgh Award

The club can help our members between 14 and 24 years old gain their Duke of Edinburgh award at Bronze, Silver or Gold levels.

Archery can be a physical activity or a skill under the D of E. We have a common syllabus we use, which is good for either. The coaching team can let you have a copy of our syllabus.

As at September 2026, we have helped 14 young people achieve the D of E awards, two at Gold level. We currently have four in progress, one at Gold level.

If you have never done archery before, then a one-to-one beginners course can be arranged for you, because the normal rules about who can shoot still apply to you. You’d need to liaise with our secretary about this (email above).

Our syllabus is flexible so that if you are a complete beginner we expect one level of achievement, whilst if you are an experienced archer, we expect a bit more from you.

Typically, we would expect a young person to:

  • Attend club evenings for an agreed period.
  • Show an improvement in technique, based on initial and final observations.
  • Achieve one or more 252 awards.
  • Achieve one or more AGB Progress awards.
  • Achieve one or more classifications.
  • Achieve one or more FITA Arrow awards.
  • Take part in a competition appropriate to the D of E level.
Our coaches can act as the assessor and sign off the achievements on the D of E website.
