2026 Summer Social Series
Summers back!
Whether you are new to archery, the club, or a seasoned member, I hope you’ll join us for our returning Summer Series. This series is open to all members, of any level and to all bow styles.
This is intended to be a fun, relaxed series, and it’s a great opportunity to:
- Shoot with fellow club members
- Get comfortable with scoring and organised shooting
- Gain experience shooting new rounds
- Build confidence at longer distances
- Get scores that are eligible for outdoor classifications, as well as club and county records
- Practice ahead of competitions
Last year 40 club archers took part, shooting 5 different bow types, and submitting over 278 scores! This resulted in 24 classifications earned or retained, and 32 new club records set, of which 12 were new county records!

Dates
Running from the 29th of March to 23rd of August, 2026.
Setup from 9:30 Assembly at 10:00 – Please be prompt and early to help with the setup.
Format
Organised shoots will take place on the first and third Sundays of each month. We’ll have a short assembly at 10:00am, with shooting to commence immediately after. Please arrive with plenty of time to set up prior to assembly.
Each month we’ll be shooting a different round, with various options of distances to ensure everyone is comfortable taking part. You decide on the day which of the distance options you are up for!
We’ll increase the number of arrows as we go, building up to a final round of Metrics in August, just prior to the club run Short Metric competition.

There is also an opportunity to submit a bonus score on any of the alternate Sundays each month (with a few exceptions, see the full calendar). These shoots must be pre-arranged on your own, and include at least one other archer. You must shoot that month’s round (distance option up to you) and follow official shooting guidelines with one end of sighters and scoring. Please share your score sheets with Fran (a photo via email or in the dedicated clubhouse folder), before submitting it to the club records.

Below is the full breakdown of the round options for each month, with distances and number of arrows. Try and push yourself to go further out as we go!
All of the rounds, with the exception of the Short Metrics, will be shot on a 122cm face and in ends of 6 arrows.

Scoring
Keeping score is a great way to track your improvement, and adds a fun competitive element to the series – but it’s all for fun!
As we’ll be shooting different rounds across the series, with archers shooting various distances, we’ll be relying on handicap scores. Handicap scores will be calculated based on the Archery GB outdoor classification tables . New to handicaps? See Archery GB’s full explainer .
Ranking for the series will be determined by the average of your top 5 handicap scores (a minimum of 5 scores is required to rank). Any ties will be decided by classification points from those top 5 sessions, and then total golds.
Awards
There are series trophies for the top junior, lady, and gent, as well as medals galore based on bow style, age, gender, and overall improvement. ‘Best Summer Attire’ for the final is bound to return as well – so get those summery outfits ready! If you won last year, please bring your trophy back for this year’s winner.
