On Tuesday 27th October, 22 juniors gathered together at the Bowmen of Warfield club to shoot the Halloween pumpkin round, the weather couldn't have been kinder, it was dry and the sun was shining, not your usual autumn afternoon!! Juniors from Bowmen of Warfield were joined by archers from 3 other local clubs:- Bowmen of Burleigh, Crowthorne and Maidenhead. Many got into the spirit of things by turning up in Halloween costumes and brought along their fantastic carved pumpkins.
We shot a non-classified round of 3 dozen arrows at 20yards, allowing juniors of all abilities to take part and as a result there were some great scores achieved and lots of treats were claimed by popping balloons and hitting the pumpkin pictures on the target faces.
Once shooting was over, the juniors tucked into hot dogs, homemade pumpkin soup and delicious homemade spooky cakes and cookies, whilst Judith had the difficult job of judging the best carved pumpkin.
Now for the moment the juniors had all been looking forward to the most...... To light the pumpkins and shoot them, and shoot them they did!!
One junior managed to shoot an arrow that went right through the pumpkin and the candle melted the Nock! Whilst another juniors arrow snapped in the air!
It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and I would just like to express my thanks to a few people who without their help the afternoon would not have been so successful. Thank you to the Powell family for helping set up the field, Judith for being our witch field captain, Irene for the delicious soup, Julie & kate for helping with refreshments, everyone who baked (or brought) cakes, Simon for the chocolate ???? and anyone else I may have missed, but most of all to everyone for coming along and making it so much fun! Look forward to seeing you all again next year!
